1.Who we are
Flare is operated by [COMPANY LEGAL NAME], [COMPANY LEGAL ADDRESS] ("Flare", "we", "us"). We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy.
Questions about privacy? Email us at privacy@[YOUR-DOMAIN].
2.Information we collect
a. Account information
- Phone number, verified with a one-time code sent by SMS.
- Date of birth, to confirm you are 18 or older. Your age is shown on your profile; your birth date is not.
- Display name, gender, who you're interested in, and your bio.
b. Photos
The photos you upload to your profile.
c. Selfie and liveness check
During sign-up we use your camera to capture a selfie and confirm you're a real, live person. This selfie is used only for verification and fraud prevention. It is not shown on your profile or to other users.
- Retention: [LIVENESS DATA RETENTION — e.g. deleted within X days after verification]
- Processing: [LIVENESS PROVIDER NAME or "processed by us"]
Biometric information notice. The liveness check may analyze facial features in your selfie to confirm that a live person is present. Depending on where you live, this may be considered biometric information. We use it only for the verification and fraud-prevention purposes described here, we do not sell it, and we keep it only for the retention period above. By completing the liveness check you consent to this processing. [Add any jurisdiction-specific biometric consent or disclosure language required where you operate.]
d. Precise location
We collect your precise location only while the app is in use (in the foreground, never in the background) to:
- show flares near you,
- confirm you're at a flare when you check in, and
- keep your check-in active while you're there.
Other users never see your coordinates. They only see that you're at the same flare.
e. Activity
The flares you check into, your likes and passes (swipes), your matches, and your Random Match queue activity.
f. Messages
The messages you send in chats with your matches.
g. Safety information
Reports you file, reports filed about you, and the people you block.
h. Device information
Your push notification token, device model and operating system, app version, IP address, and basic logs we use for security and debugging.
i. Payments
Only if Flare Plus is enabled in your region: the plan you choose and the payment confirmation screenshot you upload for manual review. We do not collect card or bank credentials.
3.How we use your information
We use your information to:
- provide the service, including showing flares and matching you with people;
- verify your age and that you're a real person;
- keep Flare safe: moderation, investigating reports, and preventing fraud and abuse;
- send you notifications, such as new matches and messages;
- provide support when you contact us; and
- comply with the law.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
4.What other users can see
Other users can see: your display name, age, photos, bio, and that you're at the same flare.
Other users never see: your phone number, your birth date, your exact location, or your verification selfie.
5.Service providers and disclosures
We share information with service providers who help us run Flare, only as needed for them to do so:
- Cloud hosting and database: Google Cloud (region asia-southeast1).
- Photo storage: Amazon Web Services S3 [confirm].
- Maps: Google Maps SDK for Android. Google processes this data under its own privacy policy.
- Push notifications: Expo push service / Firebase Cloud Messaging.
- SMS delivery: [SMS PROVIDER].
- Liveness verification: [LIVENESS PROVIDER NAME or "processed by us"].
We may also disclose information:
- for legal reasons, when we believe it is required by law or needed to protect the safety of our users or others; and
- in a business transfer, such as a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, in which case this policy will continue to apply to your information.
6.International transfers
Your information may be processed and stored outside your country, including in the regions where our service providers operate (see section 5). This policy continues to apply to it wherever it is processed.
7.How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is active.
When you delete your account, your profile, photos and messages are deleted within [30] days. We may keep some records we need for safety or legal reasons (for example, reports of serious violations) for [PERIOD].
Selfie and liveness data are kept as described in section 2c.
During the early test build, all data is deleted before the end of 2026. See Early test build.
8.Early test build: data deletion
Flare is currently an early test build. When testing ends, we will permanently delete all user data. This will happen before the end of 2026, most likely in December 2026.
This includes:
- your account and profile (phone number, date of birth, name, gender, preferences, bio);
- your photos;
- your selfie and liveness data;
- your check-ins, swipes, matches and Random Match activity;
- your messages;
- reports and blocks; and
- device information and push notification tokens.
You don't need to do anything. After the deletion, your test account will no longer exist, and you'll need to sign up again to keep using Flare. You can still delete your account yourself at any time before then.
9.Your choices and rights
- Edit your profile at any time in the app.
- Turn off location in your device's system settings. Flare's core features won't work without it.
- Turn off notifications in the app or your device settings.
- Block or report anyone from their profile or your chat.
- Request access, correction or deletion of your information by emailing privacy@[YOUR-DOMAIN].
- Delete your account in the app (Profile → Delete Account) or by following the steps on our delete account page.
10.Security
We protect your information with encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and access controls that limit who can see it. No system is 100% secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
11.Adults only
Flare is strictly for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and we delete such accounts when we find them. Read our Child Safety Standards.
12.Changes to this policy
If we make changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant, we'll also let you know in the app or by another reasonable method before they take effect.
